Great Wall Of Zavora

Distance: 6-10km
Travel Time: 10-25 min
Max Depth: 27m
Suitable For: North End, Advanced OW/2* Divers. South End, All Divers.
Great Wall challenge, Advanced Nitrox.

As the name suggests, this site is a long wall running parallel with the shore, North East to South West. At the north end it is fairly shear on both the inshore and offshore sides, coming up from around 27 meters to 17 meters on top. As you head South, the offshore side becomes sloping after a little over 1.5 kilometers, the top of the reef widens and starts to come up as shallow as 14 meters. The inshore side of the wall then becomes 2 distinct ledges, the top in around 14 meters, a wide ledge at 18 meters and the sand bottom at 24 meters. The wall runs for 4.5 kilometers and as it can be dived on both sides, it is home to several dive sites. Advanced Nitrox divers can get the opportunity to try to get a couple of kilometers under their belt in one dive, and as the entire wall has not been dived yet, exploration diving is still available. Ask staff for details!

Species seen on this reef include large schools of trevally, rubberlips, emperors and cuda. Mantas are often seen passing by overhead or cleaning towards the southern end. Blotched fantail and jenkins whiptail rays can be seen both on the reef and in the sand at the bottom. There is lots of macro, including pipe fish, shrimps and colourful nudibranchs, but don't be surprised if you come across a white tip reef shark or even a brindle bass as you explore the small caves and overhangs! Crayfish and slipper lobster can also be found along with plenty of turtles and the rest of the usual suspects of Zavora.
