To the south of our launch area and inshore, Ponta Macanza is a shelving reef coming off a rocky protrusion on the shore. It ranges from 7-14 meters and has stunning topography with gullies, overhangs and swim throughs. As well as having cleaning stations for manta rays, this site has more than its fair share of the weird and wonderful. Seagrass ghost pipefish, leaf fish, and pipe fish have all been seen here as well as some very weird starfish that we cannot identify!
Due to the structure of this reef it can only be dived in optimal conditions making it all the more mysterious and exclusive.
Macanza is probably the best area for whale shark sightings in Zavora. A unforgettable experience.
